Nine horsepower at the PTO is the number that decides whether this tractor is right for you, and most buyers never look at it. Swaraj's 717 is a 15 HP single-cylinder machine, the smallest proper tractor the company builds, and it is aimed squarely at growers of groundnut, cotton, chilli, grapes and castor working plots of an acre or two. At 1210 mm overall width it slips between rows that would stop a 25 HP tractor, and 260 mm of ground clearance lets it straddle standing crop during inter-row passes. Weight is 850 kg. The 864 cc engine is water-cooled, which for a single cylinder working long spraying shifts in Saurashtra or Vidarbha heat is the right choice. It is a light, cheap, narrow tool for a very specific job.

At ₹3.19 lakh to ₹3.29 lakh the 717 is honestly priced for what it is, and the live hydraulics with ADDC and a 780 kg lift are more than you would expect on a 15 HP machine. The three-stage oil bath air filter matters in dusty cotton country. But we have to be blunt about two things. First, 9 PTO HP will not run a rotavator of any useful width, and buyers who expect it to are the ones who end up disappointed; this is a cultivator, seed drill, sprayer and light trolley tractor. Second, the warranty is one year or 750 hours, the shortest in this whole group, against five years on the Mahindra JIVO and two on the Sonalika GT 20. On a machine you plan to keep a decade, that is a real gap. Brakes are dry disc rather than oil-immersed, and the steering is mechanical, so a heavy day on hard ground is physically tiring. Buy it if your plots are narrow and your implements are light. If you need PTO power, the 724 XM is the Swaraj to look at.
