Under ₹3 lakh at the bottom of the range, this is about as cheap as a new 20 HP tractor gets in India. Captain built its business in Gujarat and Maharashtra selling to grape, pomegranate and citrus growers who needed something narrow, and the 200 DI is the plainest expression of that idea: one water-cooled cylinder of 895 cc, 17 HP at the PTO, 1070 mm of overall width and a 2200 mm turning radius. At ₹2.94 lakh to ₹3.38 lakh the 200 DI does something no other tractor here does: it gets a farmer with two acres off hired equipment entirely. A synchromesh gearbox at this money is a real advantage over the sliding-mesh Mahindra and Sonalika machines, and 1070 mm of width with a 2200 mm turn makes it properly usable in a grape block. Then you look at what was cut to reach the price. The brakes are dry internal expanding shoes. They are described as waterproof, but they are not oil-immersed, and on a slope with a loaded trolley that is a difference you feel. Steering is mechanical. The lift is 600 kg, the lowest in this group, which rules out heavier mounted implements. Warranty is one year or 700 hours, the shortest cover of any machine on this page. And a single 895 cc cylinder vibrates in a way a two-cylinder JIVO does not, which tells on you after six hours.
