Swaraj started in Mohali in 1974 as a Punjab engineering project and is now the second pillar of the Mahindra group, holding 18.76% of FY2025-26 India domestic dispatches on its own. In Punjab, Haryana and western UP it often outsells everything else in the yard.

The reputation is built on heavy iron and simple mechanics. Swaraj's 744 FE and 855 FE use large-displacement three-cylinder engines — 3307 cc and 3478 cc — which is a lot of cubic capacity for 49-50 HP. That deliberate under-tuning is the point: the engine runs at lower stress on long trolley hauls to the mandi and on continuous thresher duty, and it pulls a heavy MB plough through wet clay without needing to be revved. Lift capacity across the FE range sits at 2000-2200 kg, enough for a loaded five-tyne or a hydraulic trolley.

Listed models on Aglist run from the 15 HP Swaraj 717 at ₹3.19 lakh to the 60 HP 963 FE at ₹10.36 lakh. Warranty on most FE models is 6 years, though the 400-hour service interval on the 744 and 963 means more workshop visits than some rivals ask for.

The limitation is refinement. Swaraj cabs and controls are basic next to a John Deere or Kubota at similar money, and the heavier chassis costs you a little fuel on light haulage where that weight earns nothing.
