Captain 250 DI
₹ 3.61 Lakh – ₹ 4.6 Lakh ex-showroom
Captain Tractors has been making small tractors in Rajkot, Gujarat since 1994, and it built its business on a machine most big brands ignored: a genuinely compact tractor cheap enough for a two-acre farmer.
The three listings here are the 200 DI and the 250 DI. The 200 DI is a 20 HP single-cylinder of 895 cc with 600 kg lift, priced ₹2.94 to ₹3.38 lakh, with a 1-year or 700-hour warranty. The 250 DI is a 25 HP two-cylinder at 1290 cc, also 600 kg lift, at ₹3.61 to ₹4.60 lakh, and it appears in both the tractor and mini-tractor listings because that is genuinely where it sits.
What these machines do well is narrow work. Cotton and groundnut rows in Saurashtra, vineyard and orchard inter-cultivation, spraying, small trolley runs, and land where a 45 HP tractor cannot turn without damaging the crop. At under ₹3 lakh for the 200 DI, they also compete with power tillers while offering a proper seat and three-point linkage.
Be realistic about the limits. A 600 kg lift will not take a heavy rotavator or a loaded MB plough, and a single-cylinder 895 cc engine is not a ploughing machine. The 700-hour warranty on the 200 DI is also the shortest in our data. These are inter-cultivation tractors, and judged as that they are good value.
| Model | HP | Price | Aglist Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Captain 250 DI | 25 | ₹ 3.61 Lakh – ₹ 4.6 Lakh | 5.8/10 |
| Captain 200 DI | 20 | ₹ 2.94 Lakh – ₹ 3.38 Lakh | 5.1/10 |
₹2.94 to ₹3.38 lakh ex-showroom, which makes it one of the cheapest four-wheel tractors sold in India. It is a 20 HP single-cylinder of 895 cc with 600 kg lift and a 1-year or 700-hour warranty. Suited to inter-cultivation and spraying rather than primary tillage.
Only a small, light one, and not in hard ground. With 600 kg of lift on both the 200 DI and 250 DI, the hydraulics are the limit rather than the engine. Most Captain owners run a cultivator, a sprayer, a ridger or a small trolley instead, which is what these machines were designed around.
If you have two acres or more and any haulage to do, the Captain 250 DI is the better tool: you sit down, you get a three-point linkage and you can pull a trolley. A power tiller costs a third as much and is easier in a wet paddy plot or a tiny terraced field where a tractor cannot turn.
