Best 41-50 HP Tractors in India 2026: Honest Comparison

The 41-50 HP band grew from under half the Indian market in FY19 to close to two-thirds by FY2025-26. In a year when the industry crossed a million units for the first time — 11.6 lakh wholesale and 10.5 lakh retail registrations — that makes this the most contested space in Indian farm machinery. It is also where the marketing noise is loudest, so here are the numbers.

How we are comparing them

Four measures, all from spec sheets rather than from anybody's brochure copy.

• Price per HP at the lower end of each model's price range. It is a crude measure, but it is the fastest way to see who is charging a premium.
• PTO horsepower, and how much of the engine's rated power actually reaches the shaft. This is what runs a rotavator or a thresher.
• Lift capacity, which decides what you can hang on the back.
• Warranty, including the hour cap and the service interval, because these vary far more in this band than buyers realise.

The value end

Sonalika 745 DI III Sikander — 50 HP, 43 PTO HP, 1,800 kg lift, ₹6.47-6.73 lakh. At roughly ₹12,940 per HP this is the cheapest way to get 50 HP on our list, and Sonalika was the biggest share gainer of FY26 at 12.94%. Warranty is structured 2+3 years, which is not the same thing as a straight 6-year cover.

Indo Farm 3048 DI — 50 HP, 42.5 PTO HP, 1,800 kg lift, 2,035 kg, ₹6.66-6.96 lakh. Second cheapest per HP. The warranty is 1 year, the shortest in the entire band, and Indo Farm sits inside the roughly 3% "others" bucket of the retail market. That combination is a real risk if your nearest service point is far away.

Eicher 485 — 45 HP, 38.3 PTO HP, 1,650 kg lift, 2,140 kg, ₹6.25-7.11 lakh. The heaviest 45 HP machine here, which helps with draft work and hurts in a wet field. Two-year warranty.

Massey Ferguson 241 DI Maha Shakti — 42 HP, 35.7 PTO HP, 1,700 kg lift, ₹6.33-6.84 lakh. India's most-searched Massey model and one of the highest-volume nameplates in the country. On paper it is unremarkable: 85% PTO retention and a 2-year warranty at about ₹15,068 per HP. People buy it for TAFE's dealer coverage, its low 1500 rated rpm and its resale, and those are legitimate reasons that do not show up in a spec table.

The PTO end

If your tractor's main job is a rotavator, a thresher or a super seeder, PTO horsepower is the number that matters. Four machines stand out.

New Holland 3630 TX Super — 50 HP producing 46 PTO HP, the highest PTO figure in this band on our site and 92% retention. Lift is 1,700 kg and the price is ₹7.85-8.84 lakh, which works out near ₹15,700 per HP. New Holland was FY26's fastest-growing major OEM at nearly 37% growth, largely on this model.

Solis 5015 E — 45.8 PTO HP from 50 engine HP, 2,000 kg lift, ₹7.70-8.29 lakh.

Powertrac Euro 50 — 45.6 PTO HP, 2,000 kg lift, 2,170 kg, ₹7.61-7.90 lakh, 5 years or 5,000 hours.

Mahindra Yuvo Tech Plus 575 — 43.1 PTO HP from 47, a 12F+3R constant mesh gearbox and 2,000 kg lift at ₹7.05-7.61 lakh.

For contrast: the John Deere 5050 D is 50 HP and 42.5 PTO HP, which is 85% retention, at about ₹15,922 per HP. It is an excellent tractor with a very strong hydraulic system and a 5-year warranty, but it does not win this particular comparison, and John Deere buyers generally know that.

The weight and haulage end

Swaraj 744 FE — 50 HP, 2,000 kg lift, 2,060 kg, ₹6.88-7.37 lakh, 6-year warranty on a 400-hour service interval. The archetypal Punjab and Haryana tractor. We do not have a verified PTO HP figure for it, and we will not print one we cannot source.

Swaraj 855 FE — 49.3 HP, 42.9 PTO HP, 2,000 kg lift and 2,220 kg of machine at ₹7.87-8.37 lakh. The weight is the product. On heavy tillage and loaded trolley work it holds the ground the lighter tractors slip on.

Farmtrac 45 Powermaxx — 50 HP, 43.3 PTO HP, 2,245 kg, 1,800 kg lift, ₹6.86-7.43 lakh. Heavier than the Swaraj 744 and cheaper per HP.

The warranty gap nobody prices in

This is the most underrated line in the whole comparison. Inside one HP band you can buy:

• 6 years or 6,000 hours — Mahindra 575 family, Swaraj 744 FE and 855 FE, New Holland 3230 and 3630, Eicher 548
• 5 years or 5,000 hours — Farmtrac, Powertrac, John Deere, Kubota, Solis
• 2 years — Massey Ferguson 241 and 245, Eicher 485
• 1 year — Indo Farm 3048 DI

Then read the service interval underneath it. The Swaraj 744 FE's 6 years is built on a 400-hour interval; the Eicher 548's 6 years is built on a 200-hour interval. Same headline, twice the workshop visits. Our pick: Mahindra 575 DI

45 HP, 41.8 PTO HP, 2,000 kg lift, 1,860 kg, ₹6.84-7.14 lakh, 6-year warranty. It is not the cheapest per HP in this band, at roughly ₹15,199 against Sonalika's ₹12,940.

Here is why we would still buy it. At 92.9%, it puts more of its engine power onto the PTO shaft than anything else in the band on our list. It carries a 2,000 kg lift, which the cheaper 45 HP options do not. It weighs 1,860 kg, light enough for paddy work and heavy enough to pull a 9-tyne cultivator. Its CAT-2 linkage with 540, 540E and reverse PTO options covers essentially any implement a mid-size Indian farm will buy. And it is a Mahindra, which in service terms means the Mahindra and Swaraj group holding 43.61% of FY26 dispatches and the core Mahindra brand alone taking 22.89% of July 2026 retail. When the tractor breaks in a village 60 km from a town, that matters more than ₹2,000 per HP.

The honest caveat: if you already know your work is 80% rotavator and thresher, the New Holland 3630 TX Super's 46 PTO HP is the better engineering answer and you should pay for it.

Who should not buy in this band

Five-acre field farmers. Two-thirds of the market being here does not make it right for you. A 33-40 HP tractor does the same work for ₹1-1.5 lakh less. We set out the case in best tractor for a 5 acre farm.

Orchard, vineyard and narrow-row growers. A 50 HP tractor cannot enter your rows. Look at mini tractors instead, and read mini tractor versus power tiller.

Commercial haulage and contracting operations. If you run a sugarcane trolley to a mill or a laser leveller for hire, go to 55-60 HP. The Mahindra Arjun Novo 605 DI-i at 57 HP and 2,200 kg lift, or the Swaraj 963 FE at 60 HP, are built for that duty cycle. Note that above 50 HP is only about 1.89% of Indian sales, so expect thinner dealer stock.

Two timing notes worth knowing

GST on tractors fell from 12% to 5% in September 2025, and Mahindra published savings of roughly ₹45,000 on a 45 HP machine and ₹53,000 on a 50 HP machine. That reduction is already in the prices above.

Going the other way, draft TREM V rules put the 25-50 HP band on an interim TREM IIIAA standard from April 2028 and full TREM V by 2032, with the industry expecting 15-20% price increases concentrated in exactly this segment. If you are buying in this band, the next two years are the cheap window. That is a real reason to buy now, not a sales line.
