For contract work we rate this among the strongest all-round packages Mahindra sells. The combination that matters is 213 Nm, 2200 kg of lift and 15 forward ratios: you can crawl a leveller across a field, then climb into the high set and run home with a loaded trolley without treating the clutch as a brake. The 66 litre tank means fewer breaks in a 12-hour sugarcane day. Now the reservations. It is 2WD. At 57 HP with this much torque, front-wheel grip becomes the limit long before the engine does, and in wet puddled ground or a soft cane field you will be adding weights and wishing for a driven front axle. The clutch is dry type, twin plate, which is cheaper to replace than an oil-immersed unit but wears faster in heavy stop-start haulage. And at nine lakh you are within reach of the Swaraj 963 FE, which brings 60 HP and synchromesh. Our data does not list kerb weight for the Arjun, so if ballast matters to you, weigh it.
