Two cylinders instead of one is what separates this from the 200 DI, and after a day in the seat that is worth more than the extra five horsepower. Captain's 250 DI runs 1290 cc, delivers 21.5 HP at a multi-speed PTO, and keeps the same tight dimensions the brand is known for: 1070 mm overall width, a 2200 mm turning radius, weight of 890 kg. Power steering and oil-immersed brakes both come as standard here, which they do not on the 200. The synchromesh 8F+2R gearbox is a high-low arrangement. Dealers supply it with a toolkit, toplink, canopy, hook, bumper and drawbar, so you are not immediately spending again. The 250 DI is the Captain we would recommend over the 200. Oil-immersed brakes and power steering, both standard, fix the two things we complain about on the cheaper model, and the second cylinder makes long shifts far less punishing. 21.5 PTO HP with a multi-speed PTO covers a four-foot rotavator and a small thresher. Two things bother us. The lift is still 600 kg, unchanged from the 20 HP model, which is low for a 25 HP tractor and noticeably behind the Swaraj 724 XM's 1000 kg at a similar price at the top of the range. And that range is the second issue: ₹3.61 lakh to ₹4.60 lakh is a spread of almost ₹1 lakh on one model, so the advertised starting figure is close to meaningless until the dealer tells you which variant it belongs to. We also have no published warranty term for the 250 DI, and given Captain's one year on the 200, we would treat a long warranty as something to verify rather than assume.
