Forty horsepower is where most Indian farms actually live, and this is Deere's answer at that number. What makes the 5105 unusual is the engine: 2900 cc producing 40 HP, the same displacement the company uses for its 50 and 55 HP models. The understressed engine is the whole case for this tractor, and it is a good case. Pulling only 40 HP out of 2900 cc means low cylinder pressures, less heat and an engine that should still be healthy when a harder-worked rival is on its second overhaul. That matters to a farmer who intends to keep a tractor twenty years rather than trade it in five. The 5 year, 5000 hour warranty says Deere believes it too, and offering a rollover protection structure is unusual thoughtfulness at this price.

Against that, look at what ₹6.53 lakh buys elsewhere. The Eicher 380 is also 40 HP with the same 34 PTO HP, costs ₹65,000 less at entry and lifts 1650 kg. The Deere gives you oil immersed brakes as standard where Eicher charges extra, plus the warranty and the resale, and for many buyers that closes the gap. What it does not fix is the hydraulics. A 1600 kg lift is the same as the 50 HP 5050 D, so Deere has not scaled it for the class. And 1810 kg is light for heavy ploughing in dry black cotton soil.
