We like what this tractor gives you for ₹6.44 lakh at the base, and we are not going to pretend the sliding mesh gearbox is fine. It is the single biggest compromise here. Sliding mesh means you stop the tractor to change gear, every time. In dry ploughing that is an irritation. In a puddled paddy field, where stopping in soft mud is exactly what you do not want to do, it is a real operating penalty, and it is why we would not recommend the 4549 as a puddling tractor. The dry dual clutch is another thing to watch: it is strong, but dry clutches wear faster than oil immersed ones on constant trolley work, and the wet brake option is worth taking if the dealer offers it. Against that, 2892 cc for 45 HP is genuine pulling ability, the 67 litre tank keeps you in the field, and the price at the bottom of the band undercuts everything comparable.
