Track width of 762 mm is the number that sells this tractor. That is narrower than most people's grape rows, and it is why growers in Nashik, Sangli and Bijapur keep asking for the 245 by name. Four horsepower over the 225 takes it to 24 HP with 22 HP at the PTO and 81 Nm of torque, which is the point where a mini tractor stops being only an inter-cultivation machine and starts being able to plough its own land. ₹5.33 lakh to ₹5.48 lakh is a serious price for 24 HP, and we would not pretend otherwise. For that money you can buy a 35 HP two-wheel-drive tractor from several brands and get far more pulling power. What you cannot buy is a machine 762 mm across the track that will still drive all four wheels through a wet vineyard. That is the whole argument for the 245, and if narrow rows are your daily reality it is a strong one. The 81 Nm and 22 PTO HP genuinely widen what the tractor can run: a five-foot rotavator, a small thresher, a spray pump, a two-bottom plough in light soil. Where we would push back is the transmission. Mahindra is charging above ₹5.3 lakh and still fitting sliding mesh with 8F+4R and a single clutch. On a tractor that will be shuttling forward and reverse all day between rows, that is the single feature we would most like changed. The 750 kg lift is also the same as the 20 HP model despite four extra horses. Buy it for the width and the traction, and accept the gearbox.
