Go to a paddy village in Hooghly or Nalbari and the tiller parked under the tin shed is very often this one. Shrachi built its position in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam and Tamil Nadu, and the SF 15 DI is the machine that did it: a ZS 1100 four-stroke water-cooled horizontal single-cylinder DI diesel at 2000 rpm, 15 HP, 18 straight and 18 bent blades cutting two feet wide at six to eight inches deep. This is the value pick among power tillers and we would say so plainly. ₹1.65 lakh to ₹1.85 lakh for 15 HP undercuts the 13 HP Kubota PEM 140 by up to ₹1.10 lakh and the KMW Mega T 15 by a full lakh. Shrachi also states its numbers: 0.4 to 0.5 acre an hour and 1.2 to 1.5 litres an hour, which lets you actually work out what an acre costs you in diesel before you buy. The 480 kg working weight is its strongest feature in flooded paddy, where a lighter machine rides over the mud instead of cutting into it. Now the other side of 480 kg. It is heavy to turn at the bund, heavy to manhandle onto a trailer, and on hill terraces in the north-east that weight will fight you all day. The tilling width is two feet, narrower than the Kubota's 800 mm.
