The PL1017 combines rotary puddling with an adjustable levelling plate for wet rice-field preparation. John Deere’s Indian brochure identifies 54 J-type blades, 7 ft working width, 345 kg mass, a single-speed gearbox and chain side drive. It specifies Category II geometry and 44 HP or above. Rotor speed is 296 rpm at 540-rpm PTO input; those are different shafts.
Judge the finished transplanting bed
Ask for a demonstration that includes the plate adjustment, side extensions and the corners of a representative plot. The question is whether the prepared surface suits the intended transplanting method, not merely whether soil has been churned. This finishing plate is not a laser-controlled land-grading system. Field levels and water management remain separate planning questions.
Check transport and wet-work care
Confirm the folded transport arrangement and actual access route before ordering. Have the dealer assess the entire tractor and implement combination, including lift and handling, rather than using the power recommendation as approval. The maker describes metal-face sealing against water and mud; it does not remove the need for the prescribed inspection, lubrication and cleaning. Obtain the correct chain-drive and blade service instructions.
