Tractor registration and road tax in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Motor Vehicles Taxation Act 1963 s.10(1): 'Nothing in this Act shall apply to a motor vehicle registered in the name of the owner or occupier of any agricultural land or mine if such land is under his personal cultivation or if such mine is being worked personally by him and such motor vehicle is designed and used solely for carrying out agricultural or mining operations on such land or mine or within a distance of fifteen miles from the limits of such land or mine.' s.10(2): 'a tax at rupees twenty five per quarter shall be levied on any vehicle specified in sub-section (1), when the vehicle is not used solely for carrying out such agricultural or mining operations but is used by its registered owner for any other purpose.' The Act contains no separate 'tractor' entry; trailers are taxed as an additional-tax category by weight.

AP's exemption is narrower than most: it requires (a) registration in the name of the owner or occupier of the land, (b) personal cultivation, and (c) use within 15 miles of the land. That third condition is unusual and worth calling out for readers. The Rs 25 per quarter penalty rate is a genuine, quotable statutory figure but is nominal and dates from the 1963 drafting — flag it as such rather than presenting it as a meaningful cost.

RTO registration: 600 (LMV non-transport) + 200 smart card, per the AP Transport Department's own published Rule 81 table, which likewise has no tractor line

Insurance: As national.
