Nil for the tractor. MP Motoryan Karadhan Adhiniyam 1991 s.11(2): 'No tax shall be leviable on any motor vehicle used or kept for use solely for the purpose of agriculture.' The Explanation to s.11(2) expressly protects a tractor-trailer combination belonging to a bona fide agriculturist used for transporting produce grown on land cultivated personally, or materials required for agriculture. Trailer tax where levied: Rs 28 per quarter for a trailer not exceeding 1,000 kg, Rs 66 per quarter above 1,000 kg.
One of the cleanest exemptions in the country, and unusually generous because the Explanation extends it to tractor-trailer haulage of the farmer's own produce — which several other states (Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra) expressly exclude. Safe to publish.
