The exemption as applied covers transport of agricultural produce to markets, threshing fields, rice mills and storage houses — which is BROADER than Maharashtra's or Bihar's treatment. The Act names no tractor class. Trailers used for goods are taxed under First Schedule Class 1(h): Rs 340 per quarter for a trailer not exceeding 3,000 kg laden, Rs 400 per quarter for 3,000-5,500 kg.
TN is notably more generous than Maharashtra or Bihar: the exemption is understood to extend to hauling produce to market, mill and storage, whereas Maharashtra's Explanation and Bihar's s.4 proviso explicitly exclude produce transport. Good comparative content angle.
