Karnataka Motor Vehicles Taxation Act 1957, Schedule Part A2 provides lifetime tax for 'tractors, trailers and power tiller trailers' owned by agriculturists or agricultural cooperative societies, at age-banded rates running from 93% of the base tax where the vehicle is not more than 2 years old, down to 25% where it is more than 15 years old. The Karnataka Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill 2026, dated 25 March 2026, inserts a new Part A2(a) for 'Commercial Tractors Trailers' at 10% of the cost of the vehicle on new registration, with the same age-banded percentages for already-registered vehicles. The bill also adds battery-operated vehicle categories and a drilling-rig category, and was projected to raise Rs 250 crore in 2026-27.

IMPORTANT AND DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER 15 STATES: Karnataka does not give agricultural tractors a blanket exemption; it gives them a concessional lifetime tax band under Part A2. The base rupee/percentage figure that the Part A2 age-bands are applied to was NOT recoverable from public sources (the India Code PDF for the consolidated Act returned an invalid-URL error). So the actual rupee tax an agricultural tractor pays in Karnataka is NOT publishable with confidence. State on the page that Karnataka charges a concessional lifetime tax rather than exempting, that commercial tractor trailers now attract 10% of vehicle cost following the March 2026 amendment, and direct the reader to the RTO for the exact agricultural figure. Do NOT invent a number.
